in Social and Cultural Anthropology in the Globalization Debate.

The open debates about the effects of economic globalization and the significant changes in technological infrastructure have called the adequacy of the fundamental concepts of social and cultural anthropology into question. The increasingly lively debate calls for revision of the basic research instruments involving scope, method, and objects of research.
 
This study considers the positions of various schools of thought among European and US-American theorists. Using critical comparisons, the author makes commonalities and differences of various theoretical positions both clear and useful for application in research. The central objectives of Kreff’s project were to discover the potential for new starting positions and to explore how they can provide a basis for an understanding of culture and society from a global perspective.
 
The investigations have provided “a fine foundation for future engagements with basic concepts of Social and Cultural Anthropology in the context of globalization” (Historische Literatur 3/2005:509) as well as the basis for future research. The book, Grundkonzepte der Sozial und Kulturanthropologie appeared in the Dietrich Reimer Press (Berlin: 2003).
